WHY WE STARTED THIS

MySurfHub founder, Shawn, started surfing later in life than most people do. In the midst of going through a divorce, some friends reached out and invited him to go for a surf.

In the beginning it was mostly sitting out the back and talking through life’s challenges, with a little bit of wave catching. It was peer group therapy, of sorts.

Over time there was less talking and more surfing, but always together and always with meaningful conversations on the drive to and from the beach.

That form of peer support turned into an obsession with surfing. And that is where Shawn’s journey of learning, training & discovery began.

The Problem With Surf Education Today

Most people learn to surf the same way: a couple of lessons from whoever’s available, then months of expensive trial and error, piecing together technique from YouTube videos and forum threads that contradict each other.

Good coaching exists — but it’s scattered, hard to find, and even harder to trust before you’ve paid for it. Meanwhile, the surfers doing that coaching are stuck spending as much time marketing themselves as they spend teaching.

Neither side of that is working. Surfers deserve a clear, trustworthy path to get better. Coaches deserve a way to reach students without becoming a full-time marketer.
